Hoverwork Completes Canadian Coast Guard Hovercraft

Isle of Wight company, Hoverwork, has unveiled an extensively and upgraded hovercraft that it has adapted for the Canadian Coast Guard.  The craft is to operate out of Richmond, British Columbia.

Farewell Double-O-Seven

Hovertravel's Double-O-Seven is leaving the Solent after 14 years' service.  The 98-seat hovercraft, well known by thousands of commuters travelling between Ryde & Southsea, is heading for the warmer waters of West Africa.

Learner driver on Hovercraft!

On Sunday 16th November, complete novice Cindy Cole took the controls of a 98-seat type AP188/100 hovercraft on the Solent.  Mrs. Cole turned out to be a very competent student according to her instructor, Captain Barrie Jehan, Hovertravel's Operations Manager and Senior Captain.

For most people, travelling on a hovercraft is an exciting and special experience.  Very few have ever seen inside the cockpit, let alone been able to actually fly one of these unique craft.  However, a lucky member of the public has won the opportunity to do just this.

Hovercraft passenger witness dramatic Solent Rescue

A man and his 10-year-old son have been rescued by a hovercraft, just minutes before their fishing boat smashed into Ryde Pier in strong winds and rough seas.

One of Hovertravel's hovercraft heading out from Ryde, reported a small boat near the pier to approach to the Hoverport and Hovertravel's engineers spotted somebody on board waving their arms.  The boat was drifting dangerously towards the pier.

More people than ever are Hovertravelling across the Solent

September was another record-breaking month for Hovertravel, the sixth so far this year.  Passenger numbers were 3.5% up on last September.  Hovertravel is on target for its best year ever and looks set to carry its 20th million passenger before the year is out.

New Hovercraft Terminal Opening by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh

Hovertravel, the company that inaugurated the first yeard-round scheduled hovercraft service in the world celebrated the completion of its new Terminal at Ryde, Isle of Wight.  The official oppening on August 3,  was carried out by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh.

Hoverwork succesfully completed training for Cuban Pilots

In February 2003 Hoverwork and Hovertravel were glad to receive a team of two Captains and two Engineers from the company Cuban Pilots (Practicos de Cuba) for a 6 week training in the Isle of Wight.

Hovework Introduces the latest hovercraft technology, the NEW BHT150

Following on from the requirement to replace and improve on the successful AP1-88 series of hovercraft, Hoverwork's experienced team of engineers have developed the BHT150, a new diesel powered, medium lift, fully amphibious hovercraft.  

The BHT150 can carry up to 160 passengers or 30 tonne payload at 50 knots and operates over any reasonably level surface whether land, water, snow, ice, sand or marsh, giving the craft operational flexibility and freedom of movement.

Hovertravel sells Idun Viking

Hovertravel's AP1-88/100 hovercraft Idun Viking has been purchased by F H Bertling to support its operation in the Caspian Sea.  Hovertravel crew delivered the craft under its own power to Oostende, Belgium on August 24th where it was loaded for shipment to the Caspian Sea.  The trip from the Isle of Wight to Oostende took just under 6 hours.
